Natasha Gelfand (ngelfand) > We left Bangalore at 6 am, in oder to avoid "full traffic" as Anand put it. Our furst stop was in Ramohalli, which is famous for a 400 year old Banyan tree.

Natasha Gelfand (ngelfand) > Banyan trees send down aerial roots that support the branches. The roots thicken and become secondary trunks. After a while the main trunk decays and the aerial roots become trunks for various sections of the tree.

Natasha Gelfand (ngelfand) > The tree sprawls over 3 acres and looks like a forest. But apparently, it's still all one tree.

Natasha Gelfand (ngelfand) > Dosas for breakfast.

Natasha Gelfand (ngelfand) > I decided to take some pictures of what one can see on the roads in India. We are currently on the main Bangalore-Mysore road (effectively a highway).

Natasha Gelfand (ngelfand) > There are lots of ox carts.

Natasha Gelfand (ngelfand) > And brightly-painted trucks. The driving conventions dictate that when you pass someone you blow your horn to let them know, and they move over. The trucks actuvely request that you do this (they do have mirrors, but I guess they don't use them much).

Natasha Gelfand (ngelfand) > Left to right: motorcycle, auto-rickshaw, ox cart.
